Madame Lilly, Dead Voices (Vol 5) Now Available!

Deep in the heart of Louisiana resides the Evergreen Plantation and on it lives a most heinous malevolence. Voodoo Priestess, Madame Lilly is beckoned to the slave quarters to perform an exorcism on a young girl. It’s been ages since this type of ceremony has been performed and it’s one that should never be practiced again.

Lilly must face horrendous peril in order to survive the path she journeys. She quickly finds out that she is far from the most powerful and that there is a much greater force at play, one that will do anything to rid Madame Lilly.

Excerpt
From solid ground Lilly fell into a sea of blood on which shards of bone floated. Unable to breatheshe had to fight her way up. The problem was, she wasn’t sure which way was up. It was too dark.

Gulping in breaths of gore and bone, she struggled her way through the gloom. When light eventually shone above, she swam with all her might. Inches away under the surface, something wrapped around her ankle to pull her back down. She kicked savagely, but it was useless; the pull was too strong. The creature was dragging her back down.

Her leg felt something warm and rough, then something squishy wrapped around her leg and sucked on her flesh.

She was entering its mouth.

The realization startled her. She grabbed at shards of bone from the sea of carnage, and felt below for the being. She’d found a long bone and fought savagely for her life. She stabbed it repeatedly until her limb freed.

With gasped haste she swam to the surface. Lilly dragged her body to the shore of fleshy bones; away from the deadly sea. She rolled over, coughing up nothing but a red vomitus of things a person should never ingest.

There she lay, still trying to catch her breath. Her face planted in the ruins, she listened to noises that were not meant to be heard by any living being. Yet here she was. Alone in the dark, she needed to seek out what which had been brought forth onto Earth.

She was in the witch’s world. This enchantress not only could perform necromancy, but could contain souls in her own realm.

Pushing herself upward, she stood barefoot in a long, white undergarment on a bed of bones that stretched for miles before turning to black

Above Lilly the only light around brewed in the sky, but it hardly provided luminescence. Every so often, bursts of flames shot out of the ground, but they did not give warmth to the fifty-degree climate. Something wet reached up, grabbing at her legs. She jumped out of the way and could only see large, round black eyes staring at her. The thing coiled back underground.

As she backed away, she heard a slight whisper in the air. “Lilly.” It was the witch calling to her, reminding her why she was there. When she walked in the direction of the voice, her name was called repeatedly yet the noise appeared to come from various directions. It was the things that resided here.
She stopped to listen to their cries; no, their tales of their deaths. There were a multitude of accounts of being killed on slave ships or on plantations. It was overwhelming and she realized that some beings here had once been innocent, but had turned dark after centuries of enduring this place. They no longer knew a world of normalcy.

But there in the coldness, one voice stood out amongst the rest, telling her to keep walking into the darkness. It was creator of this land, trying to confuse her, trying to keep her wondering. If Lilly died here, she would be trapped here for all eternity.

Title: Madame Lilly; Wicked
Genre: Historical Fiction Horror

It's 1890 in New Orleans, a time of rich white men, sprawling plantations, Voodoo, high class parties and the unspoken Placage. Amidst the thick heat, magic and sorrow, a beautiful Creole woman exists in this cruel world. Although born free, she never knew life without the call of a ‘Master’ – until now.

Blessed with an ancient power, Madame Lily has an agenda that has galvanized her into the deepest reaches of High Society and to the darkness that is swirling with Voodoo.

Elijah is a First Made Protector tasked to guard and cleanse the world of the evils that roam. He spent millennia with only goodness in his heart until cursed – one meant to corrupt his very soul with love, obsession and infatuation… for Madame Lily, a woman that should rightfully be his adversary.

Drawn together by fate and magic, these two forces face off and sparks fly. A love that never should have been is born – a love that may change everything for both of them.

Excerpt
1890 New Orleans – Julien Dubois’ mansion

Hearon, on the other hand, made herself known. She walked into the kitchen and saw the looks on the help’s faces. One woman opened her mouth to scream but Hearon moved so swiftly she was in front of the woman before a noise could escape. The woman stifled her cry while her eyes bulged to no end.

Hearon placed a delicate finger on the woman’s full, cracked lips. “Shhh,” she warned. “Not one word.” She whispered so close to her ear, that her lips caressed her lope. She glared at the helpers, making sure no one moved but her. She then carried a tray into the formal dining area and set it next to the rest of the hoard of food.

“. . . of course this is a perfect time to buy up more . . .” Julien lost his wording when he saw Lilly’s companion standing next to one of his business partners. The man was intoxicated by the lovely Creole girl dressed in a plain white dress.

“Julien, why didn’t you tell us that you kept such beauties to serve you in your home?” The man, Francisco Becerra, just so happened to be the appointed head of New Orleans law enforcement. He was admiring Hearon as she offered him a drink. In fact a few of his guests were political figures.

The Villain You Love to Hate! Carole Gill

My Favorite Character and the Villain You Love to Hate! His Debut and Free to Read!

Eco won best villain at Efestival of words 2013 and the book he appeared in, The House on Blackstone Moor won best horror. He is the chief protagonist of three books in The Blackstone Vampires series. The fourth book features his good friend, Dracula. He is my favorite character I have ever written about. This story that follows is his debut story! I hope you enjoy it!

The Legacy

A Florentine sky at dusk, streaked with orange fire and me, walking along the Ponte Vecchio feeling lonely and dejected. The city looked magnificent in the
half light of fading day and approaching night, like a living thing ready for sleep, but perhaps not quite yet. The taverns were full—voices were raised in song
and chatter and laughter too. I listened and sighed. It is difficult to be apart whenall around me I see life lived.

My existence and I are something else, something apart and yet connected. I have told you enough of my existence so far for you to know that absolute immortality does bring with it sad and often hopeless isolation. When you are fallen angel spawn and condemned to live forever, forever troubles more than it thrills I fear. This was how I felt in the spring of 1502 when I, merely out for an evening stroll, happened to see the most fascinating creature— rushing
along as though her life depended upon it.

She carried herself with such grace and I found myself following, watching her great billowing gown glide smoothly over the cobblestones as if to bless them. Where would such a grand person rush to? I asked myself. I surmised she was probably late for an appointment. Ever more curious I continued my pursuit.
Now I do wish to put your mind at ease. I had no wish to harm her in any way, nor did I intend to overpower her in order to drink her blood. Not that I haven’t fallen upon beautiful creatures before to partake of their offerings on occasion.

Blood was to me like a fine wine, sipped but not gulped—savored but never savagely slurped as the vampires drink it. Yes I know I look down upon them,
but that is the way I am. Back to my story—so there I was wanting to see where she was going and to whom she rushed to see and–what the circumstances could possibly be and so forth. Though I hadn’t yet seen her full face, I could
see enough to know she was beautiful with her intricately coiffured hair encased in the most delicate of jewelled nets–a beautiful but unnecessary adornment for this Queen of the Night.

A Vampire Gathering

Bathory, now a vampire, remembers the first 'entertainments' her creator and lover, Anton held for her. This is an excerpt of one such occasion.

"What a gathering it was. There was music, too. The musicians were dressed in finery, and they, too, were vampiric. Then, when it came time for the celebrations, human men and women came forward. They kissed all of the coven members. Then, they undressed.

When they were naked, they were swarmed as the vampires began to feed from them. It was arousing to see. I was quite excited by it all and wished to partake. That is when you said the important thing is not to drain the human supplicants... you stared at me a rather long time when you spoke those words. I took it to be an admonition of my living life, which you were justified to make.

A number of females greeted me afterward, many looking longingly at you. I knew they were your lovers and wondered if they always would be. I soon had my answer for the revelry lasted four days. More feeds and worship, as you explained it. “Worship is the act between individuals of our species. Whatever their sex, they feed and copulate, sometimes at the same time. Such things are never wrong for our kind, my love.”

With that, you brought a dark girl toward me. I know her now as Lucerne. She called me to her. “I am an offering for your enjoyment,” she said as she disrobed, revealing an exquisite body. She was vampiric, yet I was worried. What if I fell into a jealous rage and drained her deliberately? I would have to subdue such feelings..."

A MONSTER IN LIFE, A VAMPIRE IN DEATH

The story of the infamous Blood Countess, Erzsebet Bathory, a sexual sadist and predator. She bathed in blood because she thought it would keep her from aging. Her name was not to be spoken for a 100 years after her death.

- 5 stars "A blood-soaked rendition of the fictional life of a real-life multiple murderer, history's 'Countess Dracula'"

I, Bathory, Queen of Blood by Carole Gill

How The Monster Became a Vampire

Bathory's name and her family's importance ensured she avoided trial for her crimes, despite the king wanting her put on trial. Instead, she was imprisoned in her castle under deplorable conditions, which is some comfort. This excerpt are her recollections of death and then undeath. Raised from the dead by Anton, the vampire who has fallen in love with her and cannot believe what crimes she is supposed to have committed, he has given her immortality.

"Time passed and I suffered, for there were months of unbearable cold. If I felt
I would succumb, I soon realized I wouldn’t. Why can’t I just die, I wondered? I begged to freeze to death, but did not. No fire was permitted in my domain, no blankets or coats, the thin blanket long gone, although I did finally have a thin, torn coverlet with the smell of dog urine on it. That stink faded in time or
perhaps I got used to it. Spring came. I could tell from the sound of birds
I heard. That and the scent of wildflowers that grew along the castle ramparts.
I knew the colors to be bright.

Why hadn’t I ever admired such things when I had the chance? My prison was actually warm in summer. What a welcome respite! Autumn less so, for it signaled the approach of winter. Did I expect better treatment? In all honesty,
I did not. It was to be endured until the escape by death was at last granted to me. I became ill and old. Yes, finally—though I had no mirrors, old age had at last taken me. I could see the changes. My hair had grown long and wild, uncombed and knotted, but worst of all, I could see the grey.

Excerpt
“Sit,” Lilly ordered the men. No one moved, not one single soul. Lilly placed her palms at the head of the table and leaned over. “I said sit.”
All chairs simultaneously moved inward, hitting the back of their legs and forcing them to sit. The men fell back, astounded, but silence fell upon the room except for one.
“I know who you are. I knew your pa, Moreau St. Croix. I was a little younger than he but I remember him well. He was a savvy politician but you are not him,” said Mayor Arcave. His tone was belittling as he focused in on Lilly. He sat at the other end of the table and directly across from her. “I know what you’ve done to some good Christian folks, including Julien’s family. You think by pulling a few parlor tricks that we’re supposed to be afraid of you? I don’t think so, girl.” He stood up again, this time facing Julien. “Because you’re so afraid of a little backwater witch, it gives you just cause to bring her here for us to contend with?”
“You’re mighty smug, Mayor.” He pointed to the man at his right. “Just because you have the chief here in your pocket does not give you protection from what else is out there. Things you know nothing about.” He stepped in close. “Special things like her.”

“You’re a fool, Julien,” Mayor Arcave retorted, not taking Julien seriously. “What, she spread her legs and you lost your mind? No woman, not even a skilled colored whore, is good enough for a man to lose his wits. What game are you playing, Julien?”
Ever since Lily had raised the dead she had started to enjoy the disruption amongst people. Sick as it was, it made her feel powerful. She saw it with fresh eyes. At one time she believed men who argued were men who were in such control they wanted to keep it. As much as part of that was true, she now saw that they argued because they were losing control, and in this case fear made that happen.
As much as she relished a battle of the minds she also grew bored easily. Lilly slammed her fists on the table. “I said sit.”
She held up two fingers then lowered them, taking the mayor down with her. He grabbed the arms of the chair to prevent himself from toppling over. The men gasped.
“That’s right, gentlemen, this little backwater gal came here to talk. Not listen to old, plump men prove their manhood. You can do that with your whores tonight.”
     “Now see here . . .”
“Shut up,” Lilly commanded. The mouth of the man who spoke was instantly sewed shut. Bits of blood oozed from the corners of his stitched lips. The men closest to her backed away.
